If you like to ride, you’ll love the North Georgia mountains!
Don’t let our name deceive you! You don’t have to be a hiker to stay with us! We host hundreds of cyclists annually and we’re happy to help you plan your routes. The North Georgia mountains offers lots of elevation change without having to adapt to altitude, so it’s the perfect place to train. Dahlonega is home to the Six Gap Century and Three Gap 50. This popular century road ride boasts over 11,000′ of climbing!
We’re available for individual cyclists as well as clubs, organizations and training camps.
Here are some of our favorite road cycling routes that leave right from our driveway.
Black Mountain Loop: 17.6 miles, 1700′ climbing
Winery Loop: 23.85 miles, 2247′ climbing
3 Gap (from the hostel): 37.07 miles, 3146′ climbing
6 Gap (from the hostel): 87.48 miles, 11,637′ climbing
Valley Roads, 50 Miler: 49.89 miles, 1534′ climbing
Miles Berry Loop: 31.18 miles, 2836′ climbing
Mountain Biking? Yep! There’s plenty of great single and double track around, too!
The Jake & Bull Mountain area offers about 36 miles of trail and is one of the most popular places. Map of Trails. The Fool’s Gold 60 Mile Endurance Bike Race utilizes these trails in their annual event.
Jackrabbit Mountain Recreational Area is technically in NC, but it’s only an hour drive away. There are 15 miles of fast, flowy trail without a lot of rocks and roots AND with views of Lake Chatuge. This is a great trail system for beginners and experienced cyclists. Map
If gravel grinding on double track forest service roads is more your style, there’s plenty of that in the Chattahoochee National Forest. This 20 Mile Loop serves up almost 3200′ of climbing! There’s a race for that too: Southern Cross! This 55 mile course is mostly on gravel roads with some grass and possibly single track (weather dependent) sprinkled in!
