Horseback Riding in Dahlonega

Gold City Corral & Carriage Company

Gold City Corral & Carriage Company

I haven’t been on a horse since I was about 13 years old…just staying ON my horse today would better my last experience.
For those of you who don’t know, in addition to owning the Hiker Hostel, I (this is Leigh, by the way) also do a bit of guiding for a wonderful company, Adventures In Good Company. While I mainly guide trips relying heavily on foot travel (hiking & backpacking), my next two trips are more of a medley of activities including horseback riding, hiking and whitewater rafting. I am NOT a horseback riding guide NOR a river guide, so we hire local outfitters to assist with these adventures.

The folks at Gold City Corral & Carriage Company in Dahlonega were kind enough to offer Josh and I a complimentary one hour trail ride to get to know them, become familiar with their operation and know what to expect when my group arrives later this month. After a brief lesson on how to sit on and steer our steeds, we were off! Our guide John (and his horse Norma Jean) led us through the roads and trails of the Forest Hills Resort on a beautiful sunny day.

Our horses were well trained and mild mannered, and our guide was friendly, informative and patient as he answered all of my novice questions! Gold City Corrals offers one hour, two hour and half day trail rides as well as other activities. Next time you’re in the area and looking for something different to do, check ‘em out!
